Peter Stewart has created many roles in collaboration with composers. He has toured
extensively in Europe, Australia, Asia, and North America with Philip Glass in Einstein on
the Beach, Monsters of Grace, and La Belle et la Bête.  Mr. Stewart has also recorded new
operas for Jon Gibson, Gavin Bryars, Robert Wilson, Julius Hemphill, Anthony Braxton,
Meredith Monk, Fred Ho, Allan Jaffe, Leroy Jenkins, Harry Partch and Hans Werner
Henze, and was featured in Sir John Tavener’s Veil of the Temple at The Lincoln Center
Festival.

His premier solo disc on the CRI label entitled Continual Conversation with a Silent Man,
features music of Lee Hoiby, and was presented in recital at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully
Hall.  Other recitals include debuts at The Kennedy Center and The Library of Congress.  
Albany Records has released Bayoan, a concert work for baritone and orchestra, by
Roberto Sierra.

Mr. Stewart has performed with many orchestras and opera companies, including The
Calgary Philharmonic, The Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, The New Haven Symphony,
Santa Fe Opera, Opera Roanoke, The Mark Morris Dance Company, Orpheus Chamber
Orchestra, and The Mendelssohn String Quartet.

A gifted comedic actor, Mr. Stewart, under the tutelage of Metropolitan Opera baritone
Mark Oswald, has incorporated the basso-buffo repertoire into his current offerings.  

Mr. Stewart lives in New York City with dancer and writer María de Lourdes Dávila and
their daughter Beatriz.
